Pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention, commonly known as PrEP, is the use of antiviral drugs as a strategy to prevent HIV and AIDS in people who do not have the infection. It is one of several HIV prevention strategies for people who are HIV negative but at higher risk of acquiring HIV, including sexually active adults at increased risk, people who inject drugs, and serodiscordant sexually active couples.
