Psychosynthesis is a framework and approach to psychology developed by the Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli, described as one of the prime forces in transpersonal psychology. It extends beyond personal psychology and individuality by proposing a deeper center of identity, the self, which includes but transcends ordinary day-to-day consciousness and is treated as a stable core of life often called the higher self, distinct from the personal, self-conscious everyday sense of identity. Psychosynthesis views each individual as unique in life purpose, places value on exploring human potential, and combines spiritual development with psychological healing to guide a person's path toward self-realization.
