Semen cryopreservation, commonly called sperm banking or sperm freezing, is a procedure that freezes sperm cells so they remain viable indefinitely. It is used to store sperm for donation, to preserve fertility before a vasectomy, and to protect fertility for people facing treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, or gender affirming medical transition that could otherwise affect their ability to have children.
