Karl Koller (December 3, 1857 - March 21, 1944) was an Austrian ophthalmologist born in Sušice, Bohemia, who began his medical career as a surgeon at Vienna General Hospital, where he worked alongside Sigmund Freud. He is remembered for introducing cocaine as a local anesthetic for eye surgery in 1884, a discovery that opened the field of local anesthesia. He later emigrated and died in New York City.
