Peter Safar was an Austrian anesthesiologist of Czech Jewish descent. He is credited with pioneering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the emergency technique for restoring breathing and circulation. His place in the record is as one of the founders of modern resuscitation and emergency care.
