Amygdalohippocampectomy is a surgical procedure for treating epilepsy that has not responded to other therapies. It removes the hippocampus and the amygdalae, structures within the brain that belong to the limbic system, and while it is an effective treatment for most patients it carries risks including impaired memory and altered visual perception.
