Clear lens extraction, also known as refractive lensectomy, custom lens replacement, or refractive lens exchange, is a surgical procedure that removes the eye's clear, uncataracted lens. Unlike cataract surgery, which removes a cloudy lens to treat a cataract, clear lens extraction corrects refractive errors such as high myopia, and can also be used in hyperopic or presbyopic patients who want a multifocal intraocular lens to avoid wearing glasses. It is also used to treat conditions such as angle closure glaucoma.
