A gastroenterostomy is a surgically created connection between the stomach and the jejunum, sometimes performed together with a partial gastrectomy. Historically used to treat peptic ulcers, it is now more commonly performed to let food bypass a damaged duodenum or to treat gastroparesis that has not responded to other treatments; it is rarely used for peptic ulcers today since most are caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, which responds well to antibiotic treatment.
