Lobectomy means the surgical excision of a lobe of an organ. The term most often refers to removal of a lobe of the lung, but it can also describe removal of a lobe of the thyroid, known as a hemithyroidectomy, a lobe of the brain, as in an anterior temporal lobectomy, or a lobe of the liver, known as a hepatectomy.
