Remote surgery, also called telesurgery or cybersurgery, allows a surgeon to operate on a patient who is not in the same physical location, using a robotic surgical system with one or more surgeon controlled arms, a master console, and sensory feedback, linked to the patient's operating room over high speed telecommunications. Because the surgeon does not need to be on site, the technique is intended to make the expertise of specialized surgeons available to patients anywhere, without those patients needing to travel to reach them.
