Vestibulectomy

A vestibulectomy is a gynecological surgical procedure used to treat vulvar pain, specifically provoked vestibulodynia, a chronic pain syndrome and subtype of localized vulvodynia in which chronic pain and irritation affect the vulval vestibule near the entrance of the vagina; the procedure may be partial or complete. It is primarily supported for people with provoked vestibulodynia, which causes sexual pain, and is not considered appropriate for generalized vulvar pain disorders or non-provoked vestibulodynia. Vestibulectomy is not a first line treatment, but it is considered effective over the long run and has recorded high patient satisfaction, with one review finding that seventy nine percent of patients reported significant pain relief.
