Z-plasty is a plastic surgery technique that reshapes a scar by transposing two triangular flaps of skin, used to lengthen a contracted scar or to redirect the tension lines running across it. With the traditional sixty degree angle design the technique can lengthen the central limb of the scar by a theoretical 75 percent. The first Z-plasty is credited to Horner in 1837 for the correction of ectropion, and the standard double-transposition version of the technique was reported by Berger in 1904.
