Balloon valvuloplasty is a procedure that widens a narrowed heart valve using a balloon catheter, without open heart surgery. Aortic valvuloplasty widens a stenotic aortic valve, and mitral valvuloplasty corrects a narrowed mitral valve, enlarging the valve opening so more oxygenated blood can reach the left ventricle.
