The Senning procedure is an atrial switch heart operation performed to treat transposition of the great arteries, redirecting blood flow at the level of the heart's upper chambers using the patient's own native heart tissue rather than a synthetic graft. It is named for its inventor, the Swedish cardiac surgeon Ake Senning, who was also the first surgeon to implant a permanent cardiac pacemaker, in 1958.
