Interproximal reduction, also called interproximal enamel reduction, slendering, air rotor stripping, or reproximation, is an orthodontic procedure that mechanically removes a small amount of enamel from between the teeth. It is used to correct crowding or to reshape the contact area between neighboring teeth, creating room for orthodontic movement without extracting a tooth. After the enamel is reduced, the treatment also involves reshaping the contour of the tooth surface and protecting the newly exposed interproximal enamel.
