Follicular Unit Transplantation

Follicular unit transplantation, also called the strip procedure, is a hair restoration technique in which hair is transplanted in the naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs, called follicular units, that also carry the sebaceous glands, nerves and small muscle attached to each unit. Working with these small units lets a surgeon safely transplant thousands of grafts in a single session and produce results that mimic natural hair growth rather than the pluggy look of older transplantation methods. It was the leading hair restoration procedure until the newer follicular unit extraction technique overtook it as the most common method by 2017.
