Skin Biopsy

Skin biopsy is a biopsy technique in which a skin lesion is removed and sent to a pathologist for microscopic diagnosis. It is usually performed under local anesthetic in a physician's office, most commonly by dermatologists, with results often available within four to ten days. Skin biopsies can be performed by various medical specialists, though improper technique can limit diagnostic accuracy, which sometimes leads physicians to choose an alternative approach such as Mohs surgery instead.
