A fistulotomy is the surgical opening of a fistulous tract. It can be performed by cutting out the tract and the surrounding tissue, by simply dividing the tract in one cut, or by gradual division and drainage using a seton, a cord threaded through the tract in a loop and slowly tightened over days or weeks.
