A gastric balloon, also known as an intragastric balloon or a stomach balloon, is an inflatable medical device that is temporarily placed into the stomach to help produce weight loss. It is intended for patients in whom diet and exercise alone have failed to produce weight loss and for whom surgery is either not wanted or not recommended.
