Puestow Procedure

The Puestow procedure, also called the Puestow-Gillesby procedure or a lateral or longitudinal pancreaticojejunostomy, is a surgical technique used in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis, in which a lengthwise cut is made along the pancreas, the main pancreatic duct is opened from head to tail, and a loop of the jejunum is attached to allow drainage. The operation helps relieve pain in appropriate cases of chronic pancreatitis while preserving pancreatic tissue, an advantage over alternative approaches such as Frey's procedure.
