A pull-through procedure is the definitive operation for Hirschsprung disease, a congenital condition in which nerves are missing from parts of the intestine, and it involves removing the abnormal, nerveless segment of bowel and pulling through the normal bowel to connect it to the anus. Several named variants of the pull-through procedure exist, including the Soave, Swenson and Duhamel techniques, and it can be performed using either an open or a minimally invasive surgical approach.
