A nerve guidance conduit is an artificial means of guiding axonal regrowth to help nerve regeneration, and is one of several clinical treatments used for nerve injuries. When a severed nerve cannot be sutured directly without tension, a conduit offers an alternative to grafting a nerve from elsewhere in the body, particularly for larger nerve defects, by combining physical, chemical and biological cues within the device to encourage tissue formation and guide the regenerating nerve.
