Endoscopic third ventriculostomy, abbreviated ETV, is a surgical procedure for the treatment of hydrocephalus in which an opening is created in the floor of the brain's third ventricle using an endoscope passed within the ventricular system through a burr hole in the skull. The opening, made in the translucent tuber cinereum on the ventricular floor, allows cerebrospinal fluid to flow directly into the basal cisterns, bypassing the obstruction causing the hydrocephalus.
