Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, or ETS, is a surgical procedure in which a portion of the sympathetic nerve trunk in the thoracic region is destroyed. It treats conditions including focal hyperhidrosis, facial flushing, Raynaud's disease, and reflex sympathetic dystrophy, with palmar hyperhidrosis, or sweaty palms, the most frequent indication. The sympathetic trunks are bilateral chains of nerve ganglia running along the vertebral column in cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions, and the upper thoracic region between the first and fifth thoracic vertebrae is the most commonly targeted area.
