A nerve conduction study, abbreviated NCS, is a medical diagnostic test commonly used to evaluate the function of the motor and sensory nerves of the human body, especially their ability to conduct electrical signals. It is performed by clinical neurophysiologists, physical therapists, physiatrists and neurologists who subspecialize in electrodiagnostic medicine, and in the United States neurologists and physiatrists receive training in electrodiagnostic medicine during residency, with some obtaining further expertise through dedicated fellowships.
