Akin osteotomy is a surgical procedure for correcting hallux valgus, commonly known as a bunion, in which a wedge of bone is removed from the big toe to realign it. First described by Akin in 1925, it is usually performed alongside another bunion procedure, such as a Chevron osteotomy, rather than as a stand alone treatment.
