Ankle fusion, also called ankle arthrodesis, is a surgical procedure that fuses the bones of the ankle using screws, plates or other hardware to relieve pain from end stage ankle arthritis. It is considered the gold standard treatment for that condition, trading mobility of the joint for pain relief, and it has also been used to correct foot drop.
