Bone Cement

Bone cement is a synthetic biomaterial used in orthopaedic surgery to anchor implants, fill bone defects, and stabilize fractures by creating a mechanical bond between a prosthetic device and living bone. It has been used to secure artificial joints for more than half a century, filling the space between the prosthesis and the bone and acting as an elastic zone that absorbs the forces acting on the joint, forces that at the hip can reach ten to twelve times body weight, so that the implant stays in place over the long term.
