Chevron Osteotomy

Chevron osteotomy is a surgical procedure used to correct mild to moderate bunion deformities of the big toe. The surgeon makes a V-shaped cut near the end of the first metatarsal bone and shifts the cut end sideways to straighten the toe, fixing it in its new position with a small screw, and may also file down the bony bump at the base of the toe and adjust the surrounding soft tissue. It is traditionally performed through an open incision, though minimally invasive percutaneous versions are also used, and patients typically return to normal activity within six to eight weeks.
