Facetectomy is a surgical procedure that decompresses a spinal nerve root by removing part of a facet joint, used in severely resistant cases of cervical nerve pain that have not responded to other treatment. It specifically relieves compression of cervical nerve roots within the intervertebral foramina, the spaces between vertebrae where the nerves exit the spinal cord, and is classed as a neurosurgical intervention reserved for cases where conservative management has failed.
