Genicular artery embolization, also called geniculate artery embolization, is a minimally invasive image-guided procedure performed by interventional radiologists to relieve chronic knee pain caused by osteoarthritis or by hemarthrosis following surgery. It targets the blood vessels around the knee joint that are associated with the inflammation causing the pain.
