Hip Resurfacing

Hip resurfacing is a surgical alternative to total hip replacement in which a metal cap is placed over the head of the femur and a matching metal cup lines the hip socket, replacing the joint bearing surfaces while removing much less bone than a total replacement. Outcomes depend heavily on the experience of the surgeon performing it, and health related quality of life measures are generally reported as markedly improved afterward.
