Lumbar provocative discography, also called discography or a discogram, is an invasive diagnostic procedure used to evaluate intervertebral disc pathology in the lower spine. It is usually reserved for people with persistent, severe low back pain who show abnormal spacing between vertebrae on magnetic resonance imaging, where other diagnostic tests have failed to confirm a suspected disc as the source of the pain and surgical intervention is being considered.
