Meniscectomy is a surgical procedure that removes some or all of a torn meniscus, the cartilage cushion of the knee joint. It is usually performed arthroscopically, through small incisions, and may be partial, removing only the damaged section, or complete, removing the entire meniscus along with its rim. The procedure is one of the most common orthopedic operations, performed to relieve pain and restore function in a knee with meniscal tissue that has limited capacity to heal on its own.
