An osteotomy is a surgical operation in which a bone is cut to shorten it, lengthen it or change its alignment. It is sometimes performed to correct a hallux valgus or a bone that has healed crookedly after a fracture, and is also used to correct coxa vara, genu valgum and genu varum, typically under general anesthetic.
