Rotator cuff repair is a surgical procedure that reattaches a torn tendon of the rotator cuff, the group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint. Surgeons may perform the repair through an open incision, through shoulder arthroscopy using a small camera and instruments, or through a mini-open combination of both approaches, reattaching the torn tendon to bone with suture anchors. Tears treated by the procedure typically result from overuse, injury, or gradual wear, and recovery can require several months before normal shoulder activity resumes.
