Vertebrectomy, also called corpectomy, is a spinal surgery in which all or part of the body of a vertebra is removed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. It is usually performed together with a discectomy to remove a damaged disc, and the surgeon fills the gap left behind with a bone graft taken from the patient's own pelvis or leg, or with a manufactured cage, to hold the remaining vertebrae apart while they fuse into a solid piece during healing.
