Chest Reconstruction

Chest reconstruction, also called top surgery, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the chest by removing breast tissue and reshaping the nipples and areolae. It is most often sought by transgender men and non-binary people as part of medical transition to relieve gender dysphoria, but it is also performed on cisgender men with gynecomastia, excess breast tissue that can result from medication or genetic factors, and on people seeking a flatter chest for aesthetic reasons alone. Surgically it is a form of subcutaneous mastectomy, removing tissue beneath the skin along with excess skin and repositioning the nipple areola complex, and for many transgender men it is the primary gender affirming operation they seek, removing the need for long term chest binding.
