Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, lipograft, lipomodelling or fat injection, is a surgical process in which a person's own fat is moved from one area of the body to another, with the aim of improving or augmenting an area with irregularities or grooves. It is carried out under either general or local anesthesia and involves three main stages: fat harvesting, in which adipose fat is extracted; fat processing, in which the extracted fat is processed; and fat injection, in which the purified fat is reinjected into the area being treated.
