Neobladder

A neobladder is one of the three main types of permanent urinary diversion surgically created to allow the body to eliminate urine, constructed from a segment of the patient's small intestine and connected to the ureters and the urethra. It is most commonly performed on patients who require removal of the bladder because of bladder cancer. Unlike other urinary diversion methods, a neobladder is a continent reservoir, meaning urine collects and is stored internally and is then passed through the urethra in a manner that approximates natural urination, even though the newly constructed organ lacks the original bladder's muscle tissue.
