Ureterocutaneostomy

Ureterocutaneostomy is a form of incontinent, cutaneous urinary diversion that prevents ureteral obstruction by connecting the ureter directly to the skin. It is generally used as a temporary diversion in infants and children whose metabolic status is not yet suited to reconstructive surgery, or as a palliative measure in patients with bladder carcinoma. The procedure involves dissecting the ureter and creating a stoma at the skin using the ureter itself; when both ureters are obstructed, they may be joined using a transureteroureterostomy technique, or two separate stomas may be created.
