Urethral Sling

A urethral sling is a surgically implanted device that stabilizes the pelvic tissues and organs of women. The surgery that implants it can help treat urinary incontinence and uterine prolapse, and an alternative to placing the sling is urethral bulking injections. A possible complication is foreign body erosion into the urinary tract, which can largely be reversed by partially or completely removing the sling, though the original stress incontinence frequently returns afterward, estimated at about 20 percent of the time for a partial removal and 50 percent for a total removal.
