Bogar

Bogar, also called Bhogar or Boganathar, was a Tamil Siddha sage counted among the eighteen Siddhars of the Tamil alchemical and medical tradition. He is remembered as a physician and alchemist who combined spiritual practice with the compounding of remedies from minerals, metals and herbs. Tradition credits him with an extensive body of writings on medicine, pharmacognosy and alchemy, known collectively as the Bogar corpus, including detailed treatises on preparing compound remedies. His best known work outside literature is the Navapashanam, a composite image of Lord Murugan at the Palani temple in Tamil Nadu, said to be formed from nine poisonous substances rendered into a stable healing material through alchemical processing. Later Siddha medical practice continued to draw on texts and formulas attributed to him.
