David Frawley (born 21 September 1950, in Wisconsin, United States), also known as Vamadeva Shastri, is an American writer and teacher of Hinduism who has authored numerous books on the Vedas, yoga, ayurveda and Hindu astrology, including Ayurvedic Healing (1989). He founded and is the sole instructor of the American Institute of Vedic Studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and practices as an ayurvedic practitioner and Hindu astrologer. In 2015 the Indian government awarded him the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, for his work in these fields. Scholars have also described him as a prominent ideologue of the Hindutva movement and have accused him of historical revisionism in his writing.
