Ramdev, born Ram Kisan Yadav in Mahendragarh district, Haryana, India, is an Indian yoga teacher and businessman known for promoting yoga and ayurveda across India. He co-founded Patanjali Ayurved and Patanjali Yogpeeth with Balkrishna in 2006, and since 2002 has organized large-scale yoga camps and television broadcasts of yoga sessions that built him a mass following. He led anti-corruption protests in 2011-2012 calling for the repatriation of money held overseas, and his public statements about modern medicine, yoga and ayurveda have drawn considerable criticism from medical professionals and public health officials.
