Deepak Chopra (born October 22, 1946, in New Delhi, India) is an American author, alternative medicine advocate and New Age figure originally trained as a physician in internal medicine and endocrinology. He became one of the most prominent voices in the New Age movement through books and videos promoting yoga, meditation and nutrition, and coined the concept of quantum healing, which he described as the ability of the mind to spontaneously correct the body. Medical and scientific professionals have widely criticized his claims as pseudoscience; physicist Richard Dawkins characterized his use of scientific terminology as quantum jargon deployed as plausible-sounding hocus pocus. His books and related enterprises have made him one of the wealthiest figures in alternative medicine.
