Frederick Fasehun

Frederick Fasehun was a Nigerian medical doctor who, after training in acupuncture in China under a World Health Organization and United Nations Development Scholarship in 1976, established the Besthope Hospital and Acupuncture Centre in Lagos, credited as Africa's first dedicated acupuncture center. Alongside his medical career he also owned a hotel and became widely known as the founder and leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress, a Yoruba organization formed to press for the actualization of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola's annulled 1993 election mandate. His political activism led to nineteen months of imprisonment under Sani Abacha's military government, from December 1996 to June 1998. He lived from 21 September 1935 until his death on 1 December 2018.
