Unani and Islamic Traditional Medicine

Physicians of Unani medicine, the Greco-Arabic humoral medical tradition transmitted and developed through the Islamic Golden Age and still practiced in South Asia and the Middle East under the Hakim title. This covers the classical Persian and Arab physicians of the Islamic Golden Age whose work founded the tradition's own canon, and the Hakims of Mughal and later India who practiced, taught and institutionalized Unani medicine into the modern era, including founders of the universities and colleges that still teach it. A South Asian physician whose own tradition is Ayurveda rather than Unani is grouped instead under Ayurveda and South Asian traditional medicine.
