Airway clearance therapy is a non-pharmacological treatment that uses a range of airway clearance techniques to clear mucus and other secretions from the respiratory airways. Several respiratory diseases impair the normal mucociliary clearance mechanism, allowing mucus to build up, obstruct breathing and affect the cough reflex, and mucus buildup can also cause infection whose repeated recurrence can damage the airways and lung tissue.
