Chemoembolization, formally transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), is a minimally invasive procedure performed in interventional radiology to restrict a tumor' s blood supply. Small embolic particles coated with chemotherapy drugs are injected selectively through a catheter into the artery that directly supplies the tumor. The particles block the tumor' s blood supply while releasing the chemotherapy locally, attacking the tumor by more than one mechanism at once.
